My name is Helen Dempsey-Henofer and I am a feminist humanist therapist who is here to help.
I've helped nonreligious people who need an open space where they can work through experiences without fear of judgement. With an evidence-based trauma-informed approach, we collaborate in clarifying what's most important and engage techniques to better navigate challenges, my clients experience greater confidence while living with integrity.

How Secular Therapy Works
Secular Therapy provides a commitment to an evidence-based practice helping you navigate human challenges. The evidence-based framework I use is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Through ACT, I support clients in creating space for their experience, putting together what's most important, and making space for growth and grief. We will call on your experience and self-knowledge to give our work a sense of direction. Much of our work together is focused on building self-compassion. Therapy moves at your own pace. Secular Therapy consists of 55-minute, one-on-one sessions that help you work through your concerns. In addition to listening, I will share what the science tells us about what's going on for you and help you better understand the context of your challenges, I play an active role. Here’s how it will work step-by-step:

Research shows that Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) can alleviate your struggle with thinking, beliefs, emotions, and behaviors. ACT gives you new tools in you navigate life's challenges.
